A sound-specific sculpture commissioned by Common.
Wood, industrial felt, anodized aluminum. 2016
Approx 72” x 30” x 12”
A 3 dimensional visual representation of the waveform from a collage of sounds recorded around Common in an afternoon in the summer of 2016. The short sound clip is a snapshot of the everyday sonic ambience around the building. The sculpture brings the sounds of cars, construction, sirens and voices into the space, where it both celebrates the urban cacophony and muffles it in the softness of felt and satin finish aluminum strips.
and here it is in situ.
